It has been a busy week at the school with rehearsals for plays and revision for tests being squeezed in amongst everything else. It has been an achievement therefore, that we were able to recognise the ‘Hour of Code’ campaign where students of primary and post-primary level around the world have sampled and explored the huge potential and enjoyment on offer by computer coding. Coding is a huge growth area in education in Ireland yet unlike our UK neighbours, computer science remains outside of our main curriculum. The Coderdojo movement in Ireland has been hugely successful in capturing the imaginations and challenging the intellect of many of our young people and computer science remains certainly an area of huge employment growth potential in the future.
