There was a sense of sadness on Thursday as we said farewell to Shirley as she heads off on her retirement. We held a special assembly in her honour. Classes gave great renditions of poetry and song befitting the occasion whilst Dermot and sixth class begged Shirley in the words of the Hot House Flowers, “Don’t Go”!  Dermot also spoke eloquently of Shirley’s great contribution to the education and formative years of many hundreds of children both at Aston Village ETNS and at her former schools of employment. Shirley was much loved by the students in her care and her colleagues alike. Indeed, her former colleague and principal John Kelleher made a return to the school for her final day and gave high praise and congratulations to Shirley for what she has achieved in her long teaching career. We wish Shirley well in her retirement as she returns to her homestead of Kingscourt. You are always welcome back through our doors Shirley! Best wishes for a long and rich retirement.
