There was huge excitement and anticipation today around the school as Micheál Garvey (Assistant Principal of Donabate Portrane Educate Together) brought Kimsru, Manin, Ronouch and Channa to visit us. After our senior school assembly was over and award certificates were presented, our visitors arrived. The children were facinated to learn about our guests and their homeland and it is fair to say that our VIPs really enjoyed their welcome and entertainment during their visit here. We had singing and music from our School Orchestra and Megan from sixth, whilst Melanie delighted everybody with her Irish dancing. Our guests showed us how people would greet each other in Cambodia and with some assistance from Micheál, they showed off some of their new language skills as Gaeilge! “Máith sibh!”
To round off the visit the children had many questions they wanted to ask ranging from “What do you eat for breakfast?” and “How many children are there in classes in Cambodia?” to “Does Santa come to visit you in Cambodia?” Finally, some children were asked to make a small presentation on behalf of the school to our guests to mark their visit. We hope Kimsru, Manin, Ronouch and Channa enjoy the rest of their visit to Ireland and we wish them a safe journey home next week.
