Aston Village ETNS
As in all national schools across Ireland, the school’s Board of Management will change in December 2011, and we are now seeking nominations for 2 parent representatives ( one male and one female).
There are 8 members on the Board of Management.
It comprises:
- Two patron representatives (nominated by Educate Together)
- Two parents of children enrolled in the school (one mother and one father) elected by the parents
- The principal and an elected teacher
- Two community representatives
It is a very interesting and rewarding role but it is important to have a clear understanding of what is required.
The term of office for a board is 4 years and so will run until December 2015. (If the child of a parent rep leaves during this period there is a procedure in place for them to handover to an agreed successor).
Duties of Board Members will include attending monthly meetings (usually in the evenings and lasting a few hours), developing school policies, appointing teachers and staff, promoting contact between the school, the parents and the community, and holding responsibility for all school finances (including accounts and insurance). A commitment to the ethos of the school is essential.
When the patron, parent and teacher representatives have been appointed, these 6 members will then appoint 2 community representatives to complete the new board.
Parental contributions are invaluable to the school and as the BOM makes the final decisions on all important issues in the school this is an excellent way to become involved.
If you are interested in becoming a parent representative you will need to be nominated by 2 other parents/guardians. Nomination forms are now available in the school office and need to be returned by Wednesday 19th October 2011.
