We had an extremely enjoyable and busy AVETNS Active Week 2024 last week. We had a wonderful selection of activities every day and we were supported as ever by our friends at Newtown Blues, Starlight, Fit Kids Fit Teens and Primal Jiu Jitsu. Thank you to all of these organisations for their support and to all the teachers for marching classes down to various venues throughout the week. (Thanks to all the motorists and HGV drivers for letting us cross roads safely and for the ocassional supportive beep beep, honk honk!) And thank you to teacher Sile for organising another fab Active Week for us!
Summary of Active Week 2024
We started off our first day of our Active week with a visit from Fit Kids/ Fit Teens. Every child from the school got a chance to dance their socks off during the day. Everyone really enjoyed the day. Big thanks to Fit Kids/ Fit Teens for coming into our school for the day. They have classes in Balbriggan- Flemington CC, Termonfeckin – St Fechins GAA CC, Laytown- Parochial Hall, Drogheda -Mell Parish Hall and Philipstown – St Kevin’s CC. Please see their flyer for the times of the various classes or call Jacinta on 086 2685280, email on jacinta-cassidy@hotmail.com or visit Fit Kids/ Fit Teens on Facebook.
On Tuesday and Wednesday morning classes from 2nd to 6th walked to Newtown Blues GAA pitch to take part in various GAA stations. Big thanks to Orlaith Nugent for organising the day so that TY students from Ballymakenny, St. Joseph’s and Glor na Mara could man the stations and teach the children from 2nd to 6th some GAA skills. If you or your child would like to join various training sessions, Orlaith tells us if children come down on a Monday evening between 6 and 6:30 pm they will direct them from there.
On Tuesday the junior classes were treated to Primal Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu workshops hosted by Bree Hamilton and other coaches from Primal Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu. The children loved these sessions.
On Wednesday the senior classes were treated to Jiu- Jitsu classes in Primal Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu studio. The studio is located in Greenhills industrial village, Greenhills estate, Drogheda, Co. Louth. The children really enjoyed this and realised how lucky they were to get a taste of so many types and disciplines of sport.
On Thursday we were lucky enough to have Starlight Dance Academy come into our school and showcase their talents. The children got a chance to try different gymnastics routines. Their studio is located right here in Aston Village. They offer gymnastics, lyrical, stage performances, tap, jazz, hip hop, ballet, modern, speech and drama and singing . If interested in joining please call Linda on 086 2646777 or check out their website on www.starlightacademy.dance
On Thursday and Friday one 5th and one 6th class manned active stations so that each class in the school got the opportunity to try different skills from tennis to football to basketball and skipping. Thanks so much to Sile and Liz’s 5th class and James’ 6th class for doing the active stations for the two days.
Thanks to Des for running a table tennis tournament for children in 5th and 6th class. There was great competition and it was really nice that the children got to experience a different sport. The children loved it.
What a busy and active week! The weather was very kind to us too and helped us enjoy the full active week even more. The children really enjoyed their active homework. We are already looking forward to Active Week 2025!
