This week has marked Engineers Week 2022 and all of our classes continue with their STEM projects, this year with the theme of ‘Biomimicry’. Biomimicry describes how Engineers and Scientists, Architects and even Artists have taken inspiration from nature to help solve problems in the human world and create designs and products that may one day become reality. Our classes are learning about things such as how bird wings influence airplane wing design, how super heroes get super powers from nature, how waterproof shoes are inspired by nature, the link between the Galapagos Marine Iguana and space vehicle design and how nature can provide us with ideas and solutions for frustrating traffic problems we are all too familiar with. We will have more news on all the projects later this term.
To mark this year’s Engineers Week, Sammy in sixth class has been working on reporting his recent encounter with an Engineer and Cartographer from Ordinance Survey Ireland. Sammy’s report is all his own work and is shared with you below. Well done Sammy!
